Ukraine is increasingly aligning with European standards, caring about the environment, and for many years now has been choosing a paper cup instead of a plastic one.
One of the first questions our customers ask is: “Do you make cups for hot or cold drinks?”. This is a misconception. Paper cups are already designed for any drinks, regardless of temperature. But what really matters is the composition of the drink. The most aggressive liquids are considered to be alcoholic drinks and carbonated chemical drinks, so-called “sodas.” For the latter, it’s better to use paper cups with double-sided lamination — to protect both the inside and outside of the cup from the drink.
If we go back to the basics of producing single-layer paper cups, no glue is used in their production. The seal is made through high temperatures, which hold the edges and the so-called seam of the cup due to a thin lamination layer of 15-18 microns. Without it, the cup would fall apart immediately in your hands.
Nowadays, paper cups have become widely used — their application is expanding every year — for water, various hot drinks like coffee and tea, soups, ice cream, popcorn, any fast food, etc.
However, the highest demand is for cups used for coffee drinks. Coffee, especially in the morning, is, as they say, “sacred.” So let’s focus on this topic separately. If you plan to or already are the manager or owner of a coffee shop, before creating a drink menu, analyze your target audience. First of all, who are your enthusiasts? As in Europe, in any restaurant, they ask, “How do you like your morning coffee?” For some, it’s an espresso with a glass of water; for others, it’s a cappuccino or latte, only with lactose-free milk! So, for an espresso, it’s a 110 ml or 4 oz cup, or an americano — 185 grams, familiar to everyone from vending machines with bill acceptors. The most popular must-have is the cappuccino 8 oz or 250-300 grams. It is also used for tea, americano with milk, etc. With a latte cup of 350-400 grams, you can even have lunch with a shawarma or your favorite pastry. A 16-ounce cup is for long drinks, both cold with ice and hot beverages.
By the way, it’s hard to name cups precisely by their liquid capacity — for example, a cappuccino cup that we call 275 ml is called 200 ml at McDonald’s to make room for the frothy foam, and some even call it 300 ml, counting to the very top. And yet, it’s the same 8 oz euro cup. Similarly, people often ask — do you have 185 ml cups instead of 175 ml? Again, it’s the same cup with a 70 mm lid diameter.
The final question is whether to buy single-layer or double-layer cups. Of course, the double-layer cup will be more expensive, but it is currently the trendiest on the Ukrainian market. It has many advantages, namely, it keeps the drink hot longer, it’s always convenient for take-away, it has greater rigidity, and it’s more pleasant to hold in your hand. This applies to both corrugated cups and smooth double walls. Even the design on double-wall cups is always brighter because they are coated with a layer of food-grade water-emulsion varnish, which doubles the sharpness of the image.
We won’t flatter ourselves too much in this short explanatory article about the fact that we produce all types and sizes of cups, because the choice is always yours!
